Tirta Empul

prayer

Bali is an intensely spiritual place. The balinese practice a laid-back island blend of Hinduism and literally everyone on the island lives and works to support their religious lives. Work, spirituality, religion and life are all mixed up into one glorious combination.

One day we hired a guide, Wayan, to take us to Mount Batur and along the way we stopped at Tirta Empul, a water palace. Wayan told us how the water comes from a special spring and has cleansing powers. People often go there after being in a hospital or sick, if they have a disability or even just if something is bothering them mentally. We were both immediately intrigued by the pilgrims offering prayer, incense and palm leave offerings. a very special place.
