Right Brain vs Left Brain

Right Brain v Left Brain. I don’t see how anyone could see this going counter-clockwise (even though the article says most people see it that way). I’m really trying to visualize it as counter-clockwise, but I just can’t. I’m most surely a right brainer. you? [via kottke]

Thanks for the link, that’s awesome.

I had the strangest experience with it. When I first looked, it was clearly spinning clockwise. As I moved my focus over to the article I could still see it out of the corner of my eye, and it changed direction and begun to spin counter-clockwise. It took a minute, but I found that I could look away and then come back and see it clockwise again. That’s spooky!

I see clockwise and it took me a good 2 minutes to get it to change direction (stare at the legs and the shadow). Same thing as Paul — as soon as I stopped looking at it it reverts to clockwise.

i’m pretty convinced that the example is actually turning clockwise and 99% of people see it clockwise. yes, you can trick your eyes into possibly seeing it counter clockwise, but in the text it says that most people see it that way. i’m not so convinced. i think the example is not a good one, even though it is intriguing.

Ok, for the first 15 seconds I looked at it, I saw it going counter-clockwise. Then all of a sudden it switched to clockwise, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t go back to seeing it counter-clockwise. I’m a lefty and have always been tagged a right-brainer. However, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve fallen into the “ambidextrous mind” category. It’s nice being a mental switch-hitter, but although I can easily slip into right-brain from left-brain, it’s so much harder to switch the other way around. Pretty much depends on which side of the brain I wake up on. Alright, I’m gonna go back to organizing my supplies drawer while I daydream about giant land-roving fish.
