Surfer/Reader Poll

Ok, so in addition to the magazine poll, which is really not all that important in the grand scheme of things, this is a reader poll and its very important. notice the italics. italics convey importance. italics is the new bold and the new “unnecessary” quotation marks combined. So listen up.

My interest is with the surfing-focused lot of you. I’ve been trying to get a handle on who comes to this site, who reads the rss feed and how often they do it. If my mint install isn’t deceiving me, there are roughly 250-300 total visitors (half of those are uniques) to this site daily. and roughly 150-200 people reading the feed. I assume that 90% of the incoming traffic to this site is from people that come from searches and what-not.

What I’d like to know is how many of you come to Quality Peoples specifically for surfing-related content. So if there was a list of questions, it’d be this:

  • Do you come for surf-related content?
  • Are you a dedicated surfer or just interested in surf culture in general?
  • If you’re a dedicated surfer, how often do you come to this site?
  • What other surf culture related sites do you go to?
  • Of the sites you (presumably) listed, which do you feel are cultural lightning rods for core surf culture?

If you don’t mind, take a few minutes to think about it and either drop answers in the comments or shoot me an email: ed[at]qualitypeoples.com

Yes, this is probably annoying, but I’m genuinely interested in the answers to these questions, they’ve been swirling around my horizontally tilted brain for months and I’d be genuinely grateful for any input. Hell, I’ll even come over and do your dishes for one night, I swear.

I’ve never surfed. Boogie-boarding is as far as I’ve gone. So, I’m generally not all that interested in the surf-related content. I’m more interested in the Photography, Design, and misc. But, the surf content is still interesting, and it’s part of the character of your site. I may be more interested than most, because although I don’t surf, I can hang at the beach drinking beer with the best of them. It’s my #1 vacation.

I’m one of those 150-200 feed readers. NetNewsWire is running all day, refreshing every 30 minutes. I generally don’t come to the site, unless it’s to comment.

Cheers.

I’m a dedicated surfer/ graphic designer living in South West England. I’m interested in everything on your site! - in order - awesome photos, travel, surf related stuff & design. Other surf related sites I visit regularly are the obvious magicseaweed.com, windguru.com, and a UK report site called A1surf.com, and the a-side studio site, not strictly a surfing site but they do lots of surf related work: http://www.a-sidestudio.co.uk/index.html they also produce stranger magazine http://www.stranger-mag.com/. A south west – surf lifestyle magazine.

Magicseaweed gets my vote as the cultural lightning rod for core surf culture.

Well, I come mainly for the surfing. Mainly for the warm water surfing, I should say. I live in Santa Cruz but really enjoy your posts. I’ve been down to Mita a few times, met up with you briefly at Burros a few months ago on my last visit…love it down there and I enjoy your dedication to your blog and keeping up on what the surf is doing down there. I’ll admit I just glance over most of the design-oriented posts…no offense! But surfing is the main draw for me.

Other (surf) sites I check:
stokemaster.com
wavewatch.com
surfline.com
pleasurepointsurf.com
surfingindia.net
niceness.org/wordpress/
papagsurf.com
…that’s probably enough for now…

Thanks

Yes, I come to the site for surf related content even though all I have done is boogie boarded. I like to live vicariously through your triumphs and crashes. I am interested in surf culture and like the Logos and designs related to it. I live in Chicago and work in Graphic Design and publishing, and surfing is not a viable activity. I have vacationed in Punta Mita and Bucerias and enjoy seeing your photos. I just returned from San Miguel and love the Mexican culture and like seeing how you are being a part of it. I was connected to your site through BillieBlog.
