if i wasn’t neck deep in about a thousand other things, right about now, I’d do a up a new redesign for this here site. I’ve already got it all planned out in me little noggin. oh where shall i find the time? and is 1100px width (non-collapsing) too wide? Doesn’t everyone have apple cinema displays by now?

Cool! Can’t wait to see it. I’ve been meaning to do the same thing for a loooooong time now.
Do you track you stats for resolution? I use Mint. Here’s a few stats from my site you might find interesting… Mint says 35% of my visitors are still at 1024 x 768. But, it also says that in terms of actual window width, 85% are over 1000 pixels wide, and 50% are over 1096 pixels wide. So, a fair amount of my visitors that technically have larger screens, still have their Browser window set between 1000 and 1096 pixels. At 1344 pixels wide the percentage drops to 13%. For me, 1000 pixels is probably as big as I would go.
i’ve been designing for 1000 lately and it seems to be okay. would love to see the new design… (yes, we got cinema, even in Mexico…doesn’t everyone?)
perhaps you could put the type in set columns or constrain it to a set width. its a bit of a nightmare reading a sentence that crosses the enitre screen. Other than the that, keep up the good work!

I design for 960 wide. It’s safe. Most people have at least 1024 with a couple of 800s dancing around.
