Re: Death of Environmentalism. It’s an old piece now. As an environmental professional with 15 years in the environmental cauldron of the Pacific Northwestern United States, I remember not thinking much of the article when it was first published. I felt like I was doing work while others were getting famous talking about it.

IIRC the premise of that article was that environmentalism was better (cf “surfing was better”, “skating was better”, “music was better”, etc blah blah blah) way back when it was a bunch of wildass hairballs that f*cked shit up and caused a stir in the square establishment. Then it became part of the establishment what with marble-floored offices in Washington, D.C and Executive Directors of national environmental organizations being driven in limousines to give congressional testimony on the Hill. (I can’t remember if they mention Dr. Jay Hair by name, one time director of National Wildlife Federation, but that’s who they were referring to in the article). Read it, learn a little by, as with all things, taking the good stuff and leaving out the crap. Most of all, stay cool, Ed.

for sure. always sifting through to find the good, chucking the sensationalism. haven’t read the white paper yet, but I’m getting around to it.

i’m definitely interested in the idea that technology can be used for benefit, up and above conservation and education.
