  • Fraser Speirs – App Store: I’m out.
Speirs sums up exactly who Apple has stepped over the line into treacherous territory. I'm really surprised we haven't seen 10,000 mac/iphone developers echoing Speirs' thoughts. In summary: Apple is using the app store for anti-competitive, monopolistic advantage. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't the only app store. Unfortunately, it is the only way to get apps on to the iPhone (legally). Big no no.
  • chartjunk » Tax Plans (that’s one for you, nineteen for me).
a more accurate graph of McCain and Obama's tax plans. this graph takes things like arithmetic in to consideration.
  • Edge: What Makes People Vote Republican? By Jonathan Haidt
interesting read: "When Republicans say that Democrats "just don't get it," this is the "it" to which they refer. Conservative positions on gays, guns, god, and immigration must be understood as means to achieve one kind of morally ordered society. When Democrats try to explain away these positions using pop psychology they err, they alienate, and they earn the label "elitist." But how can Democrats learn to see—let alone respect—a moral order they regard as narrow-minded, racist, and dumb?"
  • Sex, drugs, offshore drilling, 9/11 and hurricane season
Surfrider CEO jim Moriarty weighs in on the offshore drilling for sex and drugs scandal that is on a slow burn to add another major "accomplishment" to the Bush adminstration's list.

  • The Falling Man - Esquire
An amazing read on the anniversary of 9/11, if there’s only one thing you read about the day, it should be this: “Do you remember this photograph? In the United States, people have taken pains to banish it from the record of September 11, 2001. The story behind it, though, and the search for the man pictured in it, are our most intimate connection to the horror of that day.”
  • And Then It Was Over: Shoot! Takes its Final Bow.
Rachel Hulin says goodbye as Photoshelter shuts down "Shoot! The Blog", one of my favorite morning coffee reads. so sad. Rachel is continuing to blog at her own url, time to update the rss feed.
  • Photoshelter Collection Comes to a Premature End
Vincent Laforet breaks down Photoshelter's decision to stop selling stock with eloquence and just the right amount of emotional rawness. He's definitely pissed about the bigger issues here with regards to photographers and the way they and their work are treated w/r/t stock photography.
  • A Difficult Decision and Refocus - A Picture's Worth
Photoshelter stops selling stock. these guys had an awesome thing going. the short story is that they were ahead of their time.
  • SkatePhone? iSkate? Touchgrind…
""Illusion Labs brings you the world's first true multi-touch game for the iPhone. The board is controlled by using finger gestures similar to the legs and feet of a real skater."

perhaps the single reason I have to buy an iPhone. i can totally get with this. if they had a similar surfing game, I'd DEFINITELY buy an iPhone.

  • Senator Bunning Says Paulson Acts Like Socialist, Should Resign
would someone please inform Senator Jim Bunning that we never had a free market capitalism. It's always been a corporate welfare capitalism. When the top 25% of corporations pay no taxes, that's not exactly a free market.

Sunset Patrol II

Sunset Patrol

Back out to Holi for a sunset session last night, after recuperating from the morning. What could only be described as wind-blown, wedge-like conditions, river mouth run-off floating into the right-side break slamming into the main peak caused violent hell tubes. I waited for the wind to die down and just as it did, the sun fell below the horizon. Saving grace? good sunset photos.
