a selection of photos from the various travels of Sven Hoffman. beautiful black and whites. from personal work to street photography to commercial work, Hoffman’s aesthetic is the unbroken thread. great stuff.
Following this inner passion, Sven has spent a large part of the past years on the road – always combining work with personal travel – catching bottom-up views of various cultures in a snap-shot. For his latest project “On the Road Journal”, he travelled the world photographing “little stories about great people and places” celebrating the strength of nations with ethnic diversity. Based in Hamburg and Venice, CA, Sven has worked for an eclectic list of clients. His photographs have appeared in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, Stern View, Blue, and Surfers. His work has been exhibited in Hamburg, Munich and L.A.

John Nese is the proprietor of Galco’s Soda Pop Stop in LA. His father ran it as a grocery store, and when the time came for John to take charge, he decided to convert it into the ultimate soda-lover’s destination. About 500 pops line the shelves, sourced lovingly by John from around the world. John has made it his mission to keep small soda-makers afloat and help them find their consumers. Galco’s also acts as a distributor for restaurants and bars along the West Coast, spreading the gospel of soda made with cane sugar (no high-fructose corn syrup if John can avoid it). – Chow
I posted this video last week in an image pile up, but this guy’s message has been playing through my head all week. it deserves it’s own post. It goes beyond ‘soda pop’. something about his attention to craftsmanship, his small business ethic, definitely anti-establishment, anti high fructose corn syrup. I’d love to sit around and talk politics with this guy. inspirational.

Rubi in the Rough: San Sebastian, Spain
Danielle Rubi (the other half of Rubi-Dentzel) has been tapped by Opening Ceremony to write for their blog:
DANIELLE RUBI is a photographer and EPICURE based in Paris, who has agreed to share her travels and adventures with OC readers. Get ready for some truly awe-inspiring and mouth-watering reading…. San Sebastian is considered one of the most respected gastronomic towns in the world. It has the highest concentration of Michelin starred restaurants (16) and yet it’s super mellow and unpretentious. It’s a small surf town with an INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, incredible food culture and a ton of pride.
This is just a small list of some of the many surfyish blogs we’ve been following recently (in no particular order). so many viewpoints on surfing and surfy lifestyles, so many different geo-locations, so much good, bad, awesome, punk, indifferent writing and wicked photography, videos, artwork, shapes, tints, experiments, etc…
