Vivian Maier was a previously unknown and unpublished street photographer from Chicago with a body of work upwards of 40,000 plus negatives. She died in 2009. John Maloof acquired the negatives as part of the contents of a storage locker he bought at a public auction. The photos inspired Maloof to pick up a camera and learn photography, he used Maier’s photos as a guide. The more he studied them, the more he realized how talented their creator was, so he began researching her. Recently, Maloof began posting Maier’s photos to a blog he created for her, interest in her work spread quickly. And now Maloof and Anthony Rydzon are in pre-production on a documentary on Maier’s story and work, they are raising funds through kickstarter.
