  • YouTube - Micah P Hinson - Beneath the Rose
amazing video. subtle and beautiful. great song too. [via seamouse]
  • kuler | Adobe Labs
probably like the best color sequencing app ever? if you need to pick a series of colors for a theme or something, this thing is BOSS. The downloadable AIR app version isn’t so cool, but its got the coolest icon ever.
  • 80 Beautiful Typefaces | Smashing Magazine
great list of classic typefaces. when helvetica you wanna stray from helvetica, this is a good list of stand-ins. (but why would you ever do such a thing?)
  • Oh No He Didn't! | Amy Stein's blog
"At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." - McCain to his wife Cindy. Imagine if Obama had said this at any point in his life, in front of a reporter. At some point we have to collectively, publicly admit that there is a double standard with which the press treats McCain and Obama. McCain is a dirty old grinch yet the press never mentions this fact and despite repeated, consistent out bursts, press just shrug it off. What happens if an elected president (the oldest ever & in war time) starts to develop dementia?
  • Creative Minds Press Self-Publishing FAQ
brilliant FAQ on starting your own publishing house.
  • Graph Paper Press Wordpress Themes

  • DestroyFlickr | Adobe Air-based app for viewing Flickr
the dark grey background and the full screen view are killer. It's a bit disorientating at first, but I gotta say, over the half-hour it took to learn how to use this thing, I viewed exponentially more photos than I could with Flickr's site. total score!
  • I Can't See You, I Can't See You
TPM on the wesley clark's statements about McCain on Sunday. i just can't believe how republicans can continually shape the national debate in their own terms. and rather than calling bullshit, obama throws another one of his supporters under the bus.
  • Final Attigo | ANP Quarterly blog
the newest new shit in turntablism. amazing stuff. touch screen manipulation of sound on the fly. including visual scratching. this system makes Final Scratch obsolete, me thinks.
  • Super Colossal | Ledger
super nice, new b+w theme for mint. wow. i like. but maybe it'd be nice in reverse as well? [via daring fireball]
  • Flexible Layouts: Challenge For The Future | How-To | Smashing Magazine
wicked awesome article on creating nice flexible layouts. don't sleep on the graph that says that 1024×768 peaked in 2006 and is now being eclipsed by bigger monitors. woo hoo!!! i wish flickr had an image size in between 500 and 1024.

  • New paper: fast food doesn't make you fat. When eating…
i'm calling bull. fast food does make you fat. it's intensely over processed. full of corn syrup, fat, chemicals etc… the only way that fast food could have the same caloric content as home cooked food, is if you cook crap at home as well.
  • Revamped Graphic Equalizer
hot the tail of Blu's Motu animation that's been storming the net the past coupla weeks is this pleasantly creative graphic equalizer stop-motion timelapse video made by Marcelo Costa. very cool. can't wait til Kanye gets in on the stop motion phenomenon.

  • Threadless: "the customer is the company"
Threadless makes $30 million in sales a year with 30% profit margin. You know a ton of great illustrators and designers, how come none of them submit their stuff to Threadless? is $2000 a good price for a design? i don’t know, but 30% profit margin seems a bit high for people who make their money selling other people’s submitted designs. again, i could be wrong, i’m just trying to work this out in my noggin.
  • Digital Edition - Foammagazine.com
why does Foam's new digital issue have the same user-interface design, color and graphics as Surfline's interactive features? (rhetorical question)
  • Spectra Visual Newsreader | msnbc.com
MSNBC launches a pretty interesting new webapp for news headline reading. very beautiful design style and very News 2.0, but has some major usability bugs and i can't see anyone using this on a regular basis unless they have a second monitor to waste. but a new experiment none-the-less. kudos to whoever designed/programmed it and kuods to whoever sold MSNBC on doing it.
  • The REAL John McCain: Less Jobs, More Wars.
user generated content makes for a new kind of political relations nightmare.

  • Schitz Popinov
2008 award for best name for a music blog. I gotta get that on a tshirt.
  • Second McCain aide quits over ties to Burmese Junta lobbying
We're talking about lobbying on behalf of mass murdering war criminals here. The real question media outlets should be asking is when did McCain find out and how long has his campaign known about this. These are people that could have gone on to run our government (as the case with the 2nd guy - aides usually end up in the administration).
  • Video: Gnarls Barkley - Going On
the video for Gnarls Barkley's Going On is bananasly good. and random as hell.
  • Peggy Noonan's article from WSJ on Obama's missing 2nd act
actually a pretty good read. she says a lot of interesting things. the Obama 2nd act thing is *very* dead-on. He does need it. but then she brings up the whole Obama is an elitist thing, which is classic wingnut talking points.
  • More Obama: Obama Campaign Launches "Vote For Change" Voter Registration Drive
Uber-wingnut Peggy Noonan declared that Obama would need a "second act" to keep his story going. Well, never one to disappoint, Obama unveils his second act. and this one is gonna be *huge*. I can hear Rove and Spakovsky drafting up their talking points.

  • Elizabeth Warren | The Coming Collapse of the Middle Class
Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren speaks at UC Berkeley. America's crashing credit economy is directly responsible for the continued rise in bankruptcy among the middle-class. Reality: You probably know more people who will file for bankruptcy than for divorce (although they may not tell you they are/have filed for bankruptcy). Big picture? We’re basically talking about the end of capitalism here. no joke.
  • Vote for Change | National Voter Registration & Mobilization Drive
Obama is launching a gigantic voter registration drive to protect low income and black voters from White House designed voter suppression laws masquerading as a Voter Rights Bill. Go Obama!
  • Banksy Unmasked? | Gawker
great article claiming Banksy is really UK stencil artist Nick Walker. I don't know if it's true, but a good read.

WiLDCOAST protects and preserves coastal ecosystems and wildlife in the Californias and Latin America by building grassroots support, conducting media campaigns and establishing protected areas.
  • Mårten Lange | The Sea
Raul Gutierrez points us to the hypnotic horizontal sea photos of Mårten Lange. This series has more than a passing resemblance to my latest surfing-themed photos. amazing series, i’d love to see these huge.

  • Neutra-Designed Strathmore Apartment condo for sale
LA peoples, listen up, one of the legendary Nuetra Strathmore Apertments is for sale. $795,000. hefty price tag, but come on, it’s a Nuetra! Architecturally significant houses aren’t recession proof, but when the market goes up, it’ll go up more. good investment.

  • Dwell Design Leaders Film Series | Chip Kidd
Chip Kidd is bananas. amazing designer, amazing apartment. interesting interview.
  • Op's new "Open Road" summer marketing program is craptastic.
c-list celebs in badly designed, cheaply made, slightly surf themed gear, make em drive a vw combi, do a pyramid in the sand and run around tackling each other and sell it at walmart. ok. would someone please shoot the person responsible for this?
