Ro is equal parts Borges and Cantinflas. Ro wins the award for “most likely to buy a winnebago and hook it up with solar panels and a satellite internet connection and spend his remaining days driving up and down the west coast of north/central/south Americas looking for waves”. This from a man that learned to surf barely four years ago.
Surfing will do that to you.

This is Sergio Hernandez, known within our group as “El Hijo del Desierto”, as his family is from Sonora. I like to call him “Bam Bam”, as he’s the youngin’ of the group and slowly learning the ways of the studied zen masters. Both of these shots were taken with film, I’m loving me some Fujichrome.

Roberto and Barbara are two of my local surf homies. They are the quintessential surf couple. Always at the break, before me, on good swell days and fluent in both the long and short board riding arts. When not in the water, these guys own one of the two main Bucerias surf/skate stores. There’s is called Buklaz Surf and Skate Shop. “Buklaz” is pronounced like “Buklas” and is the local nickname for Bucerias. Their shop is about half a block off the main square, in our little town. In addition to the usual clothing brands, board wax and videos, they stock clothing from a few small mexican brands I’ve never heard of. Always something out of the ordinary and a welcome change from the usual touristy tshirt stalls. If you ever find yourself in need of some light supplies for your local surf trip they probably have what you need and if you’re in Bucerias for tacos and a churro or two, stop by their store and say ‘Hello’.
Incidentally, one day I was paddling in to shore. As I walked up the beach, Roberto was stretching, preparing to get wet. Next to him was a patched up, relatively beat up Andreini singlefin egg, approximately 6′8″. He said a friend of his gave it to him on the cheap. I told him how stoked he was. He agreed. I fought off pangs of slight jealousy and high-fived him. and he was stoked!

Second series of portraits of LA native, longboard jammer and recent fish acquirer John B. taken in a shady spot down south.

Ethan rocks the A) one and a half flip dive and B) slightly jacked mexi’stache marker tattoo. You can find Ethan kickin it in South Carolina post-hurricane slop or in some in-the-cut locals only beach break jaunt in Costa Rica.
Mellow my man.

I got out from under the grindstone, yesterday, to take some snaps.
